How We Worship

A St. Luke’s parishioner described us as “a traditional service in a non-traditional setting”. Participation is an essential ingredient. Many volunteer to be readers, psalm and prayer leaders.

Our music is wide-ranging: we use four Episcopal Hymnals which draw from the black history, female authors, and promoting justice, along with the tried and true 1982 Hymnal.

From the moment a person is greeted at the door until goodbyes are said, there is an effort to make one feel included. The Passing of the Peace is an exuberant visit to every member of the congregation with handshakes and hugs. Every effort is made for us to have contact with everyone attending service both able-bodied and differently-abled or neurodivergent.

We love our diverse congregation and the community we are building together as we serve and worship in the Detroit Shoreway.
